#SweetgoldAroundTown: 5 Favorite Coffeeshops in NYC

Rana

New York City is full of some amazing independent coffeeshops. Whether you’re looking for your morning pick-me-up or a place to catch up with friends, there’s something for everyone. Here are some of our favorites:

1. La Colombe

With several locations around the city, this coffeeshop has become a staple in our routine. One of the best tasting cups of coffee in New York, highlighted by the sheer number of people you’ll always find in their cafes. We love their iced oat lattes and their draft lattes.

2. Felix Roasting Co

Possibly the most instagrammable coffeeshop in NYC. We fell in love with the decor and color palette of their Midtown location.  Go for innovative drinks such as their Deconstructed Espresso Tonic and the Hickory-Smoked S'mores Latte and treats from Supermoon Bakehouse.

3. The Elk

The Elk is a cozy neighborhood coffeeshop and general store located in a quaint part of the West Village. We love their coffee and healthy food options which focus on high quality ingredients.

4. Maman

An amazing spot for French fare and great coffee. We love their beautiful blue floral printed tea cups and plates and shabby chic interiors. Also a great spot for weekend brunch.

5. Ground Support

Looking for a break amidst shopping in Soho? Ground Support is the perfect place to grab a delicious textured coffee in an airy and spacious setting.

Solid Gold vs. Gold Plated, Vermeil and Gold Filled

Rana1 Comment
  • Gold plated jewelry is made of a base metal such as brass, copper, steel, nickel or silver, which is then dipped into liquid solid gold and gets electroplated with a thin even layer of gold on the surface of the jewelry. In gold plated jewelry, the gold content is usually less than 1%.

  • Vermeil is a popular type of gold plating that uses sterling silver as the base metal for making the jewelry. Additionally, in Vermeil jewelry, the gold layer plated on the sterling silver is usually thicker than regular gold plated jewelry, which makes it more durable.

  • Gold filled jewelry is made out of a base metal and a layer of solid gold that is mechanically bonded to the base metal. In gold filled jewelry, the gold content must be at least 5% of the total weight of the piece.

All of the above methods give the same appearance of gold jewelry at first, but it’s only a matter of time when the gold layer fades. The jewelry piece will eventually lose shine and luster and appears to be discolored and tarnished.

Jewelry made of solid gold however, is much more durable and can be used on a daily basis without having to worry about fading or tarnishing.

Sweetgold jewelry is made of solid gold with the wearer in mind, making sure they are pieces you can wear daily that last a lifetime.
